Title: Sonnet 29

 By William Shakespeare.


Sonnet: A sonnet is a type of poem that has 14 lines, each containing 10 syllables and a fixed pattern of rhyme.


Features of Sonnet poem ;

a) Fourteen lines: All sonnets have 14 lines, which can be broken down into four sections called quatrains.

b) A strict rhyme scheme: The rhyme scheme of a Shakespearean sonnet.

eg; ABAB/ CDCD/ EF EF / GG.

c) Written in iambic pentameter : Sonnets are written in iambic pentameter, a poetic meter with 10 beats per line made up of alteranating unstressed and stressed syllables.


 Background of the author.


William Shakespeare was born on April 26, 1564 in Stratford- upon- Avon, England. He was born to father Johnn Shakespeare and mother Mary Arden. He was educated at the king Edward VI Grammar school in stratford, where he learned Latin and Greek.

At the age of 18 he got married to Anne Hathaway and had 3 children. At around 1590, he moved to London where he started earning his life as ann actor, writer, and part owner of a playing company called the Lord of Chamberlain's Men. In total, he had written 38 plays, 2 narrative poems, 154 sonnets, and a variety of other poems. During his time in London, his printed workwewerepublished. They were two long poems, " Venus and Adonis" and " The Rape of Lucrece." During his time in the company, he wrote many famous tragedies such as King Lear and Macbeth, The winter's Take, and The Tempest Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hamlet, and Macbeth are his most famous work. Sadly he died on April 23, 1616, at the age of 54.


In today's day, he is regarded as one of the greatest writers in the English language and the world's greatest dramatist. William Shakespeare is also known as " Bard of Avon."


 


Summary of the poem.


At the beginning of the PO h,e mohhhemmedd as he finds himself disgraced and humiliated by his misfortune and he curses his poor fate for his catastrophic condition. He feels abandoned and worthless. He feels that even god neglects him as he thinks that his prayers are unheard by them. Also, this iII oppeoplelepleo are popular, more good-looking, and more talented than him. He wishes to be rich, and fortunate like them but he meets only with failure and disappointments. While cursing his present state, he had a sudden realization that there is one person who loves him. He also says that sweet memories of his lover heal him and give him hope and says that it helps to remove all his negative feelings.


      Reflection of the poem.


"Sonnet 29" is about self-motivation. The poet discusses his miserable plight and the impact of love. The poem also explains how love brings optimism and hope to people who are are are are ffeelely and oppressed.
